About Us
The Platform
Placing on Record is an independent platform for scholarly discourse on gender, law, and policy. It brings together legal professionals, academics, researchers, and practitioners to critically examine legislation, judicial developments, and policy frameworks through a gender-sensitive lens.
The platform is rooted in a simple conviction that the law is not neutral, and its biases deserve to be named, examined, and challenged. Placing on Record offers a space to critically engage with the patriarchal structures embedded in our legal and policy systems, and to ensure these conversations are documented and placed firmly on record.
More than just a space to publish ideas, we are building a community of individuals who share an equal passion for engaging with the intersections of law, gender, and policy.
Meet Ms. Mahi Agrawal
I grew up in a fairly conventional household, where certain things just were the way they were. No one ever called it patriarchy, and yet it was everywhere, in the small routines, the expectations, the silences. It existed so quietly, at such a grassroots level, that you do not even realise it is there. For the longest time, I didn’t.
That changed when I moved cities and started studying law. What unsettled me was not just recognising those patterns, but seeing them again, this time formalised. The same ideas were now appearing in statutes, in judicial reasoning, in policies, backed by citations and precedents. It was disheartening to realise how deeply this illness, what I would call patriarchy, runs through systems that are meant to be objective and just.
That discomfort stayed with me. And it is what Placing on Record comes from.
I am Mahi Agrawal, a B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) student at Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur. I completed my schooling at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, New Delhi. My academic journey has drawn me towards questions of gender, law, and policy, which I have explored through research, writing, mooting, and academic engagements at national and international forums.
Placing on Record is my attempt to ensure that these experiences, observations, and conversations are not just felt or discussed in passing, but consciously placed on record.
I warmly invite you all to engage with the content and share your perspectives on the intersection of gender, law, and policy.
